Am 10. November startet das schwul-lesbische Filmfestival “Queersicht” in Bern. Hauptthema ist die Situation von Mitgliedern der LGBT-Community. Aber auch etwas leichtere Filme werden geboten – und natürlich gibt’s auch eine Party.

We’re heading from the 1970’s to the early 1990’s, when lesbians started to be portrayed in a better way in mainstream movies. Hollywood got it almost right, but not quite. The movies portrayed this time are: Personal Best, starring Mariel Hemingway, The Hunger (Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon and David Bowie), The Color Purple with Whoopi Goldberg, and – of course – Fried Green Tomatoes.

Lesbians at the movies from the 1940’s until the 1960’s were portrayed in a disturbing way. The fate of these characters was of course always an unhappy one and often ended in death. Any young lesbian looking for a good onscreen role model during this time had no chance at all.

Am 20. Januar startet Black Swan endlich in den Deutschschweizer Kinos. Der Film, der im Vorfeld vor allem wegen der Sex-Szene zwischen den Darstellerinnen Natalie Portman und Mila Kunis für Aufregung gesorgt hat, hat viel mehr zu bieten, als ein bisschen Lesbensex. Black Swan ist nominiert für ganze vier Golden Globes (bester Film/Drama, beste Regie, beste Hauptdarstellerin, beste Nebendarstellerin) – und dies absolut zu Recht.
